Space to Tell Your Story 󠁯•󠁏󠁏 Support to Make Sense of it 󠁯•󠁏󠁏

I bring a somatic, or body based, approach to every session. This is informed by my training in Somatic Experiencing® which shifts the focus from our cognitive experience to our bodily experience. My somatic approach is trauma informed, focused on harm reduction, and holistic.

My Somatic Approach

  • A trauma-informed approach aims to help you develop a sense of safety with your therapist through unconditional empathy and careful attention to your emotional experience. While I recognize many traumas are ongoing, I hope to provide you with some tools you can use when the world inside and outside feels overwhelming. I will support you in processing traumatic material at a pace that feels right for your nervous system.

  • Harm Reduction is a more nuanced option than abstinence. Every relationship we’re a part of has risks and benefits, including but not limited to our relationships to drugs. At One Drop at a Time, I hold a harm reduction lens when working with clients around behaviors that may involve some risk - from drug use, to who you date, I will meet you where you are and walk shoulder to shoulder with you. Instead of stigmatizing or shaming, I create space to explore with curiosity, and help you define for yourself what you want your life to look like and what might be getting in the way of making changes.

  • Many aspects of our lives affect our mental health, including community, physical health, basic needs, sexuality, gender, class, disability, spirituality, experiences of marginalization, and more. Instead of seeing these issues as separate, I consider all parts of your lived experience to be relevant to healing. At times, I may invite you to review resources to support your healing process, or help you navigate complex systems.

Also, I learned from my IFS training that each individual is multiplicity - meaning, we are made up of many, many, MANY parts. Giving each part respect is of utmost importance. They each were born out of and played a major role in your story- before asking them to change, we need to make sense of them; hear them.

What are sessions like?

In a therapeutic relationship with me, I will walk shoulder to shoulder with you on your journey- starting every session wherever your mind and heart take us, helping you explore your feelings & beliefs that were shaped by some gaps of support.

  • Individual sessions are $180

  • This video tells the compassionate story of the healing process of Ray, a marine who was injured by two explosive devices, had his closest friend die in his arms, and was diagnosed with both severe PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

He was brought to see Dr. Levine after developing chronic pain, depression, Tourette-like convulsions, cognitive problems, and insomnia due to night terrors.

In a series of documented Somatic Experiencing® sessions, including Ray's family, Peter demonstrates the power of SE™ as a tool to heal the wounds of war.

For follow-up, Ray attended a Somatic Experiencing trauma healing retreat for Military Veterans with Dr Levine that took place in Maine in 2019.

Common misconceptions
about individual therapy…

Many people believe “I had support! My parents loved me! They at least did the best they could…” I agree. I will tell you time & time again - I believe in the goodness of humans. I also believe none of us are capable of batting 1000. Gaps in support were made, big or small, in all of our lives. I am only interested in helping those gaps get patched up so you can feel more whole & more aware of your deservingness of unconditional love.
